We are now nearing the time for our Operation Christmas Child campaign to get into gear - where did the summer go? This week's craft afternoon was spent doing 'odds and ends' in preparation for our shoebox checkers in November.
Some of our ladies were filling the pencil cases that they made some months ago with pens and pencils.
We also filled the little bags that we made last month with notebooks, pens and pencils.
Some people decided to make some more comb cases, since they enjoyed making them so much.
Others set to work making up rolls of paper, held together with decorative cardboard bands. We always try to make sure that every shoebox contains some educational supplies, like pens, pencils and paper. In some countries that we deliver to, a child cannot attend school if they don't have these things.
And of course our resident champion shoebox coverer was in full swing!
So whilst it may not have been our most creative session, everything that we did was an important part of our shoebox campaign, which we hope will be a success this year. Thanks to all the ladies who come each month and make so many great things for the shoeboxes! See you for one more session in October!
(The Craft Group meets on the first Monday of the month at 1.30 pm at the Maidenhead URC Church in West Street, Maidenhead. Everyone is welcome.)
